Frog Hunt — one frog, and until dusk to catch it
Frog Hunt is a free browser game about one thing only: what happens to
a task while you are not doing it. There is a frog in a pond, you are
a duck, and you have until sunset. It needs no account and no install,
and a round is over in a minute.
The three rules
The frog is slower than you at the start and faster than you at the
end — same frog, same duck, the only thing that changed is the hour.
Shiny little things drift around the pond and are free to pick up:
a quick reply, a tidy desk, an article. Each one is satisfying, eats
five seconds of daylight, and raises the frog's speed for the rest of
the round. And chasing from behind stops working halfway through, so
the way to win is to cut the frog off against the bank rather than run
it down.
Why being busy is not the same as working
The small things in the game do not feel like putting anything off.
They feel like progress, which is exactly why they are in it. A day
cannot tell being busy apart from procrastinating: both leave the
heavy thing where it was, and heavier. There is no score and no
leaderboard — the round ends with a sentence about how you spent it,
one of four.
What it has to do with DuckDoro
DuckDoro asks you to name one frog each morning and do it before
anything else, for the reason this game makes you feel in sixty
seconds. Eat the frog is the same idea
on a real day.
